The Panel on Freedom of Religion and Conscience of Working Women Was Held at Our University
An event titled “Right to Believe & Right to Work: Women's Religious Freedom in the Workplace,” which explored the relationship between women's freedom of belief and their right to work, was held at the Başakşehir Campus of Ibn Haldun University.

Organized by the Civil Society Studies Application and Research Center (CIVIL), TADUK, E.D.E.P, and the Law Club of Ibn Haldun University, the event took place on April 16, 2025, with the participation of expert academics from the fields of law and sociology.

Opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Afra Uysal, Director of the Center for Civil Society Studies at Ibn Haldun University; Prof. Dr. Şükrü Yıldız, Dean of the Faculty of Law; and Prof. Dr. Atilla Arkan, Rector of Ibn Haldun University. Following the opening speeches, Hatice Akıncı Yılmaz, Chairwoman of the Board of TÜRGEV, also addressed the audience.

The keynote speaker of the program was Sümeyye Erdoğan Bayraktar, Chairwoman of the Board of KADEM Foundation. Her address focused on global developments and current challenges concerning the protection of women's religious freedoms in the workplace.

In the panel session moderated by Prof. Alev Erkilet from the Department of Sociology at Ibn Haldun University, panelists including Research Assistant Nurhayat Bekir (Ibn Haldun University Faculty of Law), Dr. Amila Svraka Imamović (University of Sarajevo Faculty of Law), Asst. Prof. Tesnim Khriji (Ibn Haldun University Department of Sociology), and Asst. Prof. Mustafa Çatık (Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Law) offered case-based analyses from different countries regarding women's freedom of belief in working life.

The panel discussion addressed a variety of topics such as the European Court of Human Rights’ interpretations, freedom of religion and conscience in the context of the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, recent developments in Tunisia, and legal struggles within Turkey’s secular framework. The event concluded with a Q&A session.
